A Chemical Engineer with over twenty years of progressive broad-based experience in the oil&gas industry. Technical areas of expertise include production engineering, drilling & completions design/supervision, artificial lift engineering design. Specifically, formation damage removal and stimulation methodology have anchored many of the projects. These have also lead to various management contracts. Have made vital contributions to JV management, procurement and engineering activities.

Work focused around various completion, workover, drilling and facilities projects in both oil & gas environments. Specialized skills in high H2S and deep wells.

  • Engineering design of completion and testing of high AOF gas wells
  • Artificial lift design including ESP, screw pump, gas lift design.
  • Stimulation design and supervision including hydraulic fracturing, remedial cementing, acidizing, production logging, perforating, chemical treatment.

    Petrotech Lavalin 1983 - 1985
    Principal Production Engineer

    Recruited to represent Canadian oil/gas industry and market completion engineering design to the Soviet Union in the development of the Tenguiz Oilfield..

  • Prepared technical specifications for completion of 40 wells in the Tenguiz field in Kazakhstan. Worked with major Service Organizations in Europe and North America. Involved complex metallurgy due to excessive pressures, H2S and CO2 environment.
  • Prepared commercial quotation for the Ministry of Oil in Moscow for technical specifications. Assisted procurement in obtaining and evaluating quotations.
  • Designed complex mobile well control facility including stationary mud plant and pipeline system for delivery of kill fluids to mobile plants. Assisted procurement in winning the bid for this system.

    BP Resources Canada Limited 1981 - 1983
    Senior Production Engineer

  • Production optimization in various fields. This included budget preparation, allocation of approved budgets, program design and field supervision of stimulation activities in various locations.
  • Stationed in heavy oilfield to rehabilitate field. Work included well production optimization, gathering system replacement, surface facility replacement, central pumping station upgrade.
  • Key achievement was the installation of PLC based controls in the pumping station. Work included procurement, programming and supervision of installation.

    Norcen Energy Resources 1979 - 1981
    Production Engineer/Drilling Engineer

  • Production optimization in large oilfield. Worked with dynomometer and echometer results. Carried out various pumping well characteristic changes, design well damage removal with both chemical and stimulation methods.
  • Drilling Engineer supervised drilling of wells in Northern Alberta.
  • Completion Engineer writing programs and well supervision through drilling department.
  • Key contribution was the management of a completion project in an isolated area. This involved setting up logistical support spotting equipment and operating a service rig through spring breakup in Northern Alberta.

  • Engineer in training throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Operated cementing and acidizing equipment. Key was work on a stimulation crew in a foothills deep well environment for one year. Worked with proppants and acids. Worked on Nitrogen, Coiled tubing, tools and chemical services.
  • Worked in stimulation sales –programming/ customer contact and support.

    PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS –Canada and International

  • Sr. Completions & Testing Engineer for Sasol in South Africa. Duties included detailed engineering design of completions and testing of high AOF gas wells in Mozambique. Work concentrated on Production Engineering concerns of minimizing pressure drop, sand control design. Wells were 1800 m, unconsolidated sandstones, high permeability and remote.
  • Production Engineer for Canadian Nexen in Yemen. Duties included programming workovers and completions, ESP installation design, training of nationals, work on innovative methods of increasing production focusing on ESP applications.
  • Workover Engineer for World Bank Oilfield rehabilitation project in Uzen, Kazakhstan. Work involved programming for 500 well project, supervision of key elements, artificial lift design, training of counterparts, aided various support groups, workshops, etc.
  • Director General/Chief Engineer for Ukrainian JV Company. The work included managing geology, drilling, completion and production activities. JV activities included construction of treating facilities, gathering systems. Duties also included negotiation of contracts, communication with JV Directors. Staff comprised of 130 workers and up to 100 contractors during ongoing drilling and field development. Engineering design of completions, artificial lift installation.
  • Field Supervisor for Consulting firms in Alberta and British Columbia. The field supervision of completions, workovers included hydraulic fracturing, snubbing, remedial cementing, production logging, testing, artificial lift installation operations.
  • Production Engineering Consultant to Junior Operator in Alberta. Work included maintaining customer assets, field evaluations. Also made recommendations to management and implemented approved design of facilities & workovers in existing fields, completion of exploration and infill wells.
  • Advisor to the Board of Directors of Suedrohrbau GmbH & Co. Work included identifying opportunities and presentation of joint venture proposals to executive management of this major German Integrated Company. These encompassed individual workover projects of up to 150 million US$. Work was in Russia and Germany.
  • Supervised field operations in Kogalym-Western Siberia, Russia. Work included hydraulic fracturing, workovers, ESP installation, and routine monitoring of production. Work was for German Co.- CAT Oil Gmbh in their JV with Russian partners.
  • Supervised fracturing operations in the Erdos basin in China. Work included both acid and proppant treatments. This was a Ceda contract for feasibility study in new fields.
  • Production Engineering contracts for Shell Canada, Gulf Canada in the Alberta and British Columbia foothills. Wells were high AOF, critical sour and deep to 6000 m. Work included programming, supervision and liaison to exploration department.
  • Stimulation projects for Suncor and PanCanadian in Alberta. Work included design and implementation, core analysis, simulation, production logging, mini-frac analysis in both oil & gas wells. Extensive work with frac oils.
  • Multiple contracts for in house work for Petro-Canada included field evaluations, workover of existing fields, production work in asset team environment.
  • Supervised hydraulic fracturing operations in the Surat basin, Australia. This included design and implementation of large fracturing treatments utilizing state of the art mini-frac design (in excess of 250,000 lb. proppant).
  • As Drilling Supervisor, successfully drilled and completed three horizontal wells from mineshafts underground for UTF project in Tar Sands-AOSTRA.
